Who we are
We are a frontier church - We are an emerging church - We are a faithing church.
We are a frontier church. Founded in 1857 on the frontier of the expanding West, before Kansas became a state and during the turmoil of Bloody Kansas, we still remain pioneers on the frontier of changing culture and society, and on the frontier of our own emotional and spiritual stuff.
We are an emerging church. To be an emerging church means that we understand that change is constant and that we are always learning and always growing.
We are a faithing church. We understand faith to be an action verb. We choose to follow Jesus - to express our faith by living out our faith through what we do!
Whose we are
We choose to belong to God - We choose to belong to each other - We we choose to belong to the community.
We belong to God. We are committed to God and the work which God calls us to in offering salvation and restoration to our community by following the teachings and the example of Jesus, as well as the teachings of the Bible.
We belong to each other. We as a congregation are committed to deepening our relationship with one another by walking, worshiping, and working together.
We belong to the community. Our vision is to provide a safe and caring place for the people of the Kansas City area to experience God.
What we do
We grow deep - We grow wide
We grow deep. We work to remain rooted deep and strong in the knowledge of who we and whose we are.
We grow wide. As we grow deep we want to also grow upward and outward in our relationship with God, with each other, and with the community.
We go deep - We go wide
We go deep. We the church, regularly leave the building to live and love in our community, building and deepening connections and relationships.
We go wide. We the church, while building and deepening relationships, also choose to widen and expand our outreach and our areas of influence and impact.
Why we do what we do
To be relational - To be transformational
To be relational. We are committed to building and nurturing our relationships with God, with each other and with those in our community.
To be transformational. Through our relationships we are committed to offering transformation that comes from following Jesus and through the influence of God's healing and restoring power.
How we do what we do
We do it intentionally - We do it effectively
We do it intentionally. We are intentional in remembering who we are, whose we are, what we do and, why we do what we do. We are intentional in our walk, our worship, and our work.
We do it effectively. Intentionality leads to effectiveness.
